Aruba

Gold Mill Ruins

This tiny island in the lesser Antilles is worth the trip. Like many other islands in the Caribbean you’ll find beautiful beaches, delicious food, and friendly locals but Aruba felt different. Navigating its roads were easy, we rented a Jeep and spent one full day cruising around the island. The rental allowed us to access the abandon gold mills, hidden caves, and secret beaches.

In Oranjestad, the capital city, you can find Dutch and typical Caribbean food. You can also find some examples of Surinamese cuisine. Generally, tourists visit Aruba to enjoy the beaches, but some also hope to catch a glimpse of the famous flamingos at Flamingo Beach.

The best way to gain entry to Flamingo Beach is by staying at the Rennaissance Hotel in Oranjestad. If you choose not to stay at the resort, you’ll have to purchase a day-pass at the hotel lobby. The passes are only available on a first-come first-serve basis. Passes must be purchased in person.

There are some luxury stores in the capital with great prices, comparatively speaking. Definitely find a place that serves Dutch pancakes. Eat the catch of the day. Don’t worry about getting lost. Overall, enjoy the time you spend on this island.
